• Parent/Teacher Conferences are today and tomorrow. Quarter 1 grade reports will be handed out during conferences. To sign-up for a time, click on the large green “Parent | Teacher Conferences” button on our school website.

• Due to conferences, there will be no Grade 4 after-school tutoring

• This Friday, October 27, is a Casual Dress Day. We ask that each student bring at least three boxes/packs of spaghetti to school to donate to the Saint Lawrence Church Emergency Food Pantry. This is not an early dismissal day.

• There’s only two more days of “Socktober”! Last day to donate socks is Friday.

• Our annual Red Ribbon Campaign continues through this week. Please encourage your children to participate in the themed days:

GRADES 1-5: wear orange clothes.

KINDERGARTEN: wear PE shirts and jeans (field trip tomorrow).

Friday Drug-Free Team Day: wear favorite sports team gear/jersey

• Children who attend Mass at Saint Lawrence Church during the weekend of October 28-29 are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes to Mass.

• On Sunday, October 29, Saint Lawrence is hosting Trunk or Treat in the church parking lot (not at school) at 2:30PM. We need adults to volunteer their cars and candy. RSVP your car with Mrs. Waechter at [email protected], or call her at school. If you are willing to volunteer your trunk, arrive by 2:ooPM to set up. Children should bring a canned food item to participate. This event is sponsored by the new Saint Lawrence Church High School Youth Group.

• Next Wednesday, November 1, Mass will take longer than usual due to All Saints Day. We will likely take the 9:18AM MITS bus to school, not our usual 8:48AM bus.

• Our next Movie Night is Friday, November 3, 5:00PM-7:00PM. Mrs. Cope will send home a blue registration sheet today. Forms are due on Friday, November 3, by 9:00AM. We are showing Cars 3 and serving hot dogs and chips.

• Picture retake day for individual students is November 8. If you need an order form, contact the office. Class pictures will also be taken on this day. Order forms for class pictures will be sent home with all students next Wednesday.

• Our annual Veterans Day Dinner is November 10! If you have served or are serving in the U.S. military, or you have a relative or close friend who has served, please send in a photograph for our slideshow. We need the person’s name, branch, years of service, and their relation to one of our students. Email your digital photo to Miss Smith ([email protected]) or bring a hard copy to Miss Smith. If you bring in a hard copy, include your contact information so it can be returned.

• The final day to wear shorts (in 2017) is Tuesday, October 31. Shorts may be worn again starting March 1, 2018.

• This week, all classes have been discussing LearnMore Indiana This magazine gets children thinking of future careers and education opportunities. College is a ways off, but talking now about life after high school can plant seeds of ambition in a child’s mind. A copy of this free magazine is being sent home today with each child, please review it and encourage your child to discuss it.

• Around 150 boxes of very nice Christmas cards are for sale in the office from now until November 3. Buy cards with 100% of the money going to our field trip fund! If you usually do not send Christmas cards to friends and family, this would be the perfect year to start a new tradition. All cards are $3.oo per box. Super cheap!

• Our school has been contacted by Boy Scouts of America. They are hoping to re-open the Saint Lawrence Catholic School Troop. If your son(s) are interested, let Mr. Frey know by Friday, November 3. The troop would be open to all male SLCS students, grades K-5. We also need one or more troop leaders, too.

• We recently purchased new basketball uniforms. If you would like an old uniform as a keepsake, stop by the office. The old uniforms are being given away for free.

• In November, we will begin using a new curriculum known as Virtues in Practice, a program that was developed by the Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia. This program offers age-appropriate lessons on concepts such as stewardship, honesty, mercy, gratitude and generosity, while highlighting the lives of Saint Francis, Saint Paul, Saint Elizabeth, and dozens of our ancestors in faith.
